How face rating works
PSL Range is a free AI face rating tool built around one idea: a face rating should be a range, not a single noisy number.
- Upload one clear adult face photo for a quick PSL-style estimate on the
/8scale. - Add 2 to 4 more photos with different lighting and angles.
- Read your stable range, best photo, per-photo scores, and the main variance driver.
The AI model describes visible dimensions — lighting, angle, expression, image quality, face visibility, and harmony impression — and a fixed backend formula computes the score from them. The model never invents the number, so the rating stays consistent between runs.
Face rating vs. other scoring systems
Not every face rating works the same way. The differences matter more than the label:
- Beauty score apps usually output one number with no explanation of how it was produced — a black box you cannot sanity-check.
- Pretty scale and 1–10 tests go viral on social platforms, but the ruler behind them is rarely defined, so the numbers are not comparable between apps or even between your own photos.
- Quiz-style attractiveness tests estimate from questions instead of images, which measures something else entirely.
A PSL-style face rating is more specific: a defined 1.0 to 8.0 scale, read in bands, with visible scoring dimensions and a fixed formula. And because one photo is always noisy, PSL Range reports a stable multi-photo range instead of pretending a single selfie is exact. For the meaning of each band, see the PSL scale guide.
What makes a good face rating photo?
The photo conditions are the biggest lever you control:
- Light: soft window light or outdoor shade; avoid harsh overhead light that flattens structure.
- Angle: camera at eye level, an arm's length away; avoid very close, very high, or very low angles.
- Expression: relaxed and neutral beats forced.
- Quality: sharp, uncompressed image; no heavy filters.
- Visibility: no sunglasses, no hair or shadows covering the face.
One good photo gives you a fair quick estimate. Three to five varied photos give you the stable range.
